Farmingdale Boys Lacrosse Beats Long Beach, 17-10

Dalers earn first round playoff bye.

A decisive 17-10 win over the Long Beach Marines Tuesday earned the Farmingdale boys lacrosse team a first round playoff bye and tied their record with Massapequa for first place in Conference A-1.

Team co-captains Brian Prendergast and Korey Hendrickson combined for nine goals and two assists in Farmingdale's (9-1, 11-4) win over visiting Long Beach (7-3, 11-4).

The Dalers struck 1:32 into the contest after Michael Perettine scored the game's first goal. With the score tied 1-1 in the first quarter, Henrickson made it 2-1 on a feed in front from Sal Tuttle. The goal was one of Hendrickson's four tallies of the contest. Prendergast would soon follow with his first goal 4:23 into the game, putting the Dalers up 3-1.

With just less than three minutes left in the first quarter, Prendergast would strike again, this time notching Farmingdale's fourth goal after picking up a long rebound, taking it to up field and beating the Marines goaltender Mike Rourke. Hendrickson would complete the first quarter scoring his second goal of the game with just more than one minute left. The Dalers had a 5-2 lead after the game's first 12 minutes.

Three minutes into the second quarter, Farmingdale scored three more goals, including one by Hendrickson and another by Greg Catalano. Thanks to the Dalers tight defense the rest of the quarter, Farmingdale took an 8-3 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, co-captain Kevin Wahn scored to make it 9-3. Prendergast struck again for Farmingdale about four minutes later with a goal placed just over Rourke's right shoulder.

Two minutes after Prendergast's goal, Patrick Starko hit one off the goal post, but rebounded right to John Ragno, who drove another home for Farmingdale, padding the lead to 11-3.

The third quarter ended with the Dalers ahead 12-5.

The fourth and final quarters were marked by many stoppages due to penalties on both sides. Farmingdale built it's lead up to 16-6 and eventually cruised to a 17-10 win.

Heroes: Brian Prendergast had five goals and two assists and Korey Hendrickson had four goals.

Turning Point: Farmingdale built an 8-2 lead with just less than 10 minutes left in the second quarter. The Dalers continued to outplay Long Beach after that.

Key Stat: The Dalers defense allowed only 3 goals in the first half.

What's Next? The Dalers will wait to see where they stand in the playoff brackets.

Bottom Line: Farmingdale could still win the Conference depending on the bracket breakdown, which should be decided Wednesday. They are at least guaranteed a number two seed and a first round bye.
