Farmingdale Football Runs to Final

Dalers advance to Nassau Conference I final with 12-9 win over rival Massapequa Thursday night.

One year after missing the playoffs, Farmingdale football is back in the Nassau Conference I championship game.

The Dalers intercepted two passes and came up with a safety in the fourth quarter to stymie rival Massapequa, 12-9, Thursday night at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium.

Farmingdale senior defensive tackle Mike Sinatro bulled through the line and dumped Massapequa QB Paul Bentz into the end zone for a 7-yard-loss with 9:49 left. It gave top-seeded Farmingdale a 5-3 edge.

“We needed a pass rush,” Sinatro said. “We worked hard in practice this week because we knew they were going to throw the ball. We got it done. That was it.”

“He’s had a great year and he made a big play in a game that needed something to happen,” Farmingdale Coach Buddy Krumenacker said.

Junior cornerback Xavier Sanabria’s interception with 2:05 left gave the Dalers the ball at the Massapequa 24-yard-line. Kevin Petit-Frere followed guard Steve Arnone through a gaping hole on the next play and ran untouched for a touchdown.

“I was just thinking daylight,” Petit-Frere said. “Getting that touchdown was a blessing. Now we’re in the county championship.”

Petit-Frere finished with 50 yards on 10 carries. Teammate Curtis Jenkins led the way with 74 yards on 18 carries.

No. 3 Baldwin blasted No. 2 Oceanside, 67-27, in the other semifinal. Farmingdale (9-1) will play the Bruins at noon next Friday at Hofstra.

No. 5 Massapequa (6-4) led 3-0 on Craig Berge’s 35-yard field goal.

Zach Kolodny booted 30-yard field goal with 1:32 left in half for Farmingdale.

That’s how it remained until Sinatro broke through the Chiefs line and turned the quarterback – and the game – on its head.

Massapequa scored on a desperation 39-yard touchdown pass from Bentz to Mike Masiello as time expired.

Now the Dalers are back in the Conference I title game for the second time in three years.

“You play and you play and then all of a sudden a couple of things go your way,” Krumenacker said. “And you get out of here with a win.”
