Farmingdale State Women Heading to Soccer Championships

Defeat Mount St. Mary College of Newburgh, 2-0, to advance to NCAA championships.

The second-seeded Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated top-ranked Mount Saint Mary College, 2-0 in the Skyline Conference Championship last week to claim their seventh straight conference title.

With the win in Newburgh, the Rams (13-9) earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

In the first half, the Knights (15-5) held the 8-4 shot advantage with sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) recording five saves to keep the game scoreless at the halftime break.

In the second, freshman midfielder Amanda Khare of Deer Park, chipped a ball high in the 66th minute that dropped over the Mount Saint Mary keeper to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. She scored the second goal for Farmingdale State on a similar shot with only 2:26 remaining to secure a seventh straight appearance in the NCAA's.

Blair, who was named the Skyline Tournament MVP, tallied seven saves in the win.

The Rams will await word of their NCAA opponent, which will be released on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at ncaa.com<http://www.ncaa.com>.
