Kyra Ochwat Named Lacrosse Rookie of the Year

Former Daler honored for play at Quinnipiac.

Farmingdale grad Kyra Ochwat has been named rookie of the year in the Northeast Conference for her play on the Quinnipiac University lacrosse team.

Ochwat is the school's third winner of the rookie award, which she was given last week.

"Kyra had a great rookie campaign, not only starting every game for us, but becoming a key contributor on offense," head coach Danie Caro said. "We are very excited to see her continued development as her career progresses."

Ochwat ranked second overall on the team in goals with 31 and fourth on the team in points (38). She was named NEC Rookie of the Week three times during the season. The Farmingdale native, who plays attack, finished shy of tying the all-time rookie record for single-season goals of 34, set by Marta Waldron in 1999.

The Quinnipiac team was knocked out of conference play last week.

"I am really proud of my entire team," said Caro. "This has been an up and down year for us in many ways, but through it all they have stayed together as a team and managed to enjoy just playing with each other. It has been fun to watch them."

Ochwat played lacrosse, tennis and basketball for the Dalers.
