Rams Scoreboard: Losses for Farmingdale State

Men's basketball upset in first round. Women's basketball loses championship game.

Women's Basketball

Mount Saint Mary 71, Farmingdale State 50: Mount Saint Mary stopped the hopes for a repeat of the Skyline Conference championship, avenging the loss from last year's championship game on Saturday. The Knights shot just under 50 percent (29-59), lead by Jen Mocanu's 31 points. The Rams had a rough shooting first half, hitting only ten of their 34 shots and fell behind by 10 at halftime. The Knights kept up the pressure in the second, shooting 54 percent from the field in putting the game out of reach. Keona Jones lead the Rams with 16 points and six rebounds. No other Ram scored in double digits.

Farmingdale State 61, NYU-Poly 58: Farmingdale State forced 23 turnovers to avenge an earlier loss and move on to the Skyline Conference championship game. The first half saw plenty of defense as both teams shot below 26 percent, but the Rams held a one point lead at the break. A close affair in the second, Jalicia Connell hit a three pointer to give the Rams a six point lead with 54 seconds left. The team hit their free throws to close out the game. Jalicia Connel led Farmingdale State with 15 points and Juanita Chappel added seven points and pulled down ten rebounds.

Farmingdale State 96, Purchase 55: The Rams shot 57.1 percent from the floor to dominate their first round playoff game on Tuesday. Farmingdale State jumped out to a 33-7 lead ten minutes into the game and effectively put the game away early. Kayla Koch had 18 points and six rebounds on 8-10 shooting. Connell also scored 18 points. The Rams shot 50 percent from three point range (10-20).

Old Westbury 98, Farmingdale State 96 (2OT): The Rams lost their playoff opener in double overtime on Tuesday. Down by double digits with a little over three minutes left in regulation, the Rams went on an 11-0 run to take a one point lead. The Panthers would hit a free throw to tie it and Farmingdale State couldn't answer to send the game to overtime. Up by three with 35 seconds left, Frantz Granjean hit a three pointer for Old Westbury to force a second overtime. With 23 seconds remaining in the second extra period, the Rams missed a shot that could have extended the game. Josh Smith scored 17 points and added five assists and Dyshaun Flournoy netted 15 points. The team now awaits a bid to the ECAC tournament.
