Rams Scoreboard: Softball Aces Throw a Pair of No Hitters

Lacrosse teams sweep their games this week, and other spring sports updates.

Highlights from this week's spring sports at include Hope Zino's second no hitter of the season and Ryan Oswald's six goals in the lacrosse game against Mount St. Mary. Check back every Tuesday for this weekly report of game summaries.

Softball

Farmingdale State 18, Old Westbury 0: Hope Zino pitched her second no hitter of the season, leading the Rams (9-6, 6-2) to victory in game two on Sunday. The five inning mercy rule was instituted as Zino pitched the complete game, striking out 11 and walking four. Jennifer Jarczynski was the big offensive player, going 4-4 with three doubles, five RBI and a run. Kristen Flint also went 4-4, driving in four runs and scoring three times. The Rams scored seven times in the first and at least two runs in every inning they batted.

Old Westbury 8, Farmingdale State 0: Farmingdale State's hot bats were cooled by Old Westbury's Alyssa Clancy, ending their 13 game win streak. Clancy allowed just one hit and one walk striking out seven in pitching all five innings. Rebecca Richman singled in the fourth inning for the Rams only hit, and was caught stealing two batters later. Heather Buckshaw allowed eight hits and eight runs in 2.0 innings of work. The home loss is the Rams first of the season.

Farmingdale State 19, Lehman 0: Nicole Farber threw the second no hitter of the season in game two on Saturday. Farber struck out nine and walked none, throwing 61 pitches before the five inning mercy rule took effect. Farber was also effective at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jarczynski struck the big blow, a three-run homer in the bottom of the first. Madison Snyder also homered, going 2-3 with four RBI and scored two runs.

Farmingdale State 12, Lehman 3: Snyder hit for the cycle, including a three RBI triple with the score tied at three in the bottom of the fourth that would give the Rams a lead they would not relinquish in game one on Saturday. Lehman scored their runs quickly, getting all three before Farmingdale State came up to bat. The lead was preserved until the fourth, when the Rams scored five runs and added another five in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule. Syder ended the game with a three run homer in the fifth, finishing 4-4 with seven RBI.

Men's Lacrosse 

Farmingdale State 21, Mount Saint Mary 1: The Rams scored fourteen goals in the first half en route to their first Skyline Conference victory of the year on Saturday. Ryan Oswald led the team with six goals while Bobby Thomas was the points leader with nine (four goals and five assists). The shutout was broken up with 4:33 left in the game. Goalie Brian Nerney made a save and did not allow a goal in 37:58 of work. The Rams outshot their opponent 52-5, with the defense allowing a single shot in the first half.

Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State 17, Mount Saint Mary 9: Julie Rothar scored five goals and added three assists to keep the Rams (4-3, 3-0) undefeated in the Skyline Conference on Wednesday. The game was tight until Farmingdale State went on a 4-0 run midway through the first half that would give them a three goal lead. The team would have another run shortly after half that would increase the lead to six, which would be insurmountable. Emily Williams, Carly Schneider, and Kim Rigney would each score a hat trick. With the win, Farmingdale State is one of two undefeated teams in the conference, Montclair State being the other.

Baseball

Farmingdale State 3, Mount Saint Mary 0: Chris Phelan shut down Mount Saint Mary, scattering six hits over six innings to improve to 4-2 on the season in game two on Sunday. David Zilnicki doubled to left in the third inning to put the Rams on the board and then scored on a wild pitch. Zilnicki singled home another RBI in the fifth inning to have a hand in each Farmingdale State run. J.R. Lott struck out two in his inning of work to close out the save.

Farmingdale State 6, Mount Saint Mary 1: CJ Bula allowed just two hits over 7.1 innings as the Rams took game one on Sunday. Bula struck out eight and didn't allow a run or walk in the outing. Shortstop Brandon Cruz went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Terrence Bohonan went 3-5 and came around to score twice, once by stealing home in the bottom of the first. Bula improved his record to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.62.

Oneonta State 6, Farmingdale State 5 (10 innings): Michael DeCarr hit an RBI single in the top of the tenth to give the Red Dragons an extra-inning victory on Tuesday. Catcher Jordin Rodriguez singled in his first two RBI of the season in the second to open up the scoring. The Rams would add a three spot in the bottom of the fifth to take a two run lead before Oneonta State answered with a run in the top of the next inning and tied it up in the top of the seventh. Bohonan went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Oneonta State scored three unearned runs on seven Farmingdale State errors.
