Rams Scoreboard: Softball Wins Five Straight

Baseball splits conference opener.

Softball

Farmingdale State 3, Montclair State 2: The Rams scored three in the first two innings and held on to end their season opener at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida with a win. Hope Zino pitched the complete game, scattering nine hits and allowing one earned run. Jennifer Jarczynski went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Amanda Morelli went 2-2 and added an RBI. Zino improves to 5-0 on the year. The team went 8-2 on the trip.

Farmingdale State 8, St. Norbert 3: The Rams scored six runs in the top of the fifth to break the game open on Thursday. Kristen Flint went doubled in two runs and came around to score herself in the big inning. Flint went 2-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored in the contest. Shortstop Nicole Farber also went 2-4, adding an RBI and a run scored.

Farmingdale State 3, Skidmore 1: Zino pitched another gem on Wednesday, pitching a complete game allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out nine. Farber opened up the bottom of the sixth with a triple and Aubrey Walker  singled her home for the game winning run. Farber struck earlier in the first, knocking in a run and wound up 2-3 for the game. Kaitlin Keenan went 2-3 with a run scored.

Farmingdale State 5, Hood 3: Heather Buckshaw kept Hood off the scoreboard for the first four innings en route to her second win of the season. She pitched a complete game allowing five hits and three runs but walked eight. Jarczynski broke the game open with a two run single in the bottom of the sixth to give the Rams the lead and came around to score an added insurance run. Jarczynski went 3-4 with the two RBI and a run scored. Farber went 1-2 with an RBI and three walks.

Men's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State 15, Greensboro 12: The Rams scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to gain a lead they would not give up on Sunday. Wes Hubschmitt scored nine points (four goals, five assists) to lead Farmingdale State. Erick Tomson notched his second straight hat trick with three goals and two assists. Patrick Delventhal made 17 saves, earning the win.

Wesleyan 15, Farmingdale State 9: Goalie Patrick Delventhal stopped just five shots and allowed twelve goals in the Rams loss on Wednesday. The Cardinals scored the first four and held a 6-1 lead before the Rams shut them out in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to one at halftime. In the third Wesleyan would again go on a run, scoring the first five of the half. Erick Thomson was the leading scorer for Farmingdale State with two goals and two assists. Bill McGarvey, Jimmy Owsinski, and Shannon Robinson would add a pair of goals each.

Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State 17, Maritime 3: The Rams had four players score a hat trick in the Skyline Conference opener on Saturday. Justine Rothar lead the team with eight points, five coming on assists. Emily Williams scored four times and Krystin Shand and Kim Rigney added three goals apiece. Courtney Cook made eight saves. The Rams outshot Maritime 32-15.

Wesleyan 19, Farmingdale State 2: Wesleyan scored the first eight goals before the Rams could get on the scoreboard with 20 seconds left in the first half. The second half was more of the same as Farmingdale State was outscored 11-1. Cook made 22 saves in net for the Rams, who were outshot 47-10.

Farmingdale State 10, Western Connecticut 9: Rothar scored the game tying goal and then the game winning goal with 2:34 remaining to win the home opener on Tuesday. The Rams jumped out to a 3-1 advantage, their biggest lead of the match, right out of the gate. The visitors would keep it close and take a 9-7 lead before the Rams scored three unanswered to win it. Rothar scored three goals and two assists and Emily Williams would add another three.

Baseball

Farmingdale State 8, Mount St. Vincent 1: C.J. Bula held Mount Saint Vincent to one run and five hits over 6.1 innings for his third win of the year on Saturday. Catcher Frank Scarlato knocked in 3 RBI and pinch hitter Danny DeVito scored two more in his only plate appearance. The earned run given up by Bula was his first of the season.

Mount St. Vincent 12, Farmingdale State 9: Mount Saint Vincent scored ten runs in the last four innings to take the conference opener on Saturday. Right fielder Terrence Bohonan went 2-3 with 3 RBI and a walk in the loss. The Rams scored only six earned runs and went hitless against the bullpen.
