Rams Scoreboard: Three Track Athletes Named All-Americans

Both lacrosse teams lose by seven.

Indoor Track

A record number of Rams earned All-American honors this weekend at the NCAA National Championships. sent four athletes to the competition, another school record. Sophomore Faustine Chukwuezi came in fifth place in the triple jump at 11.50m for her first All-American nod. Classmate Corine Magee finished seventh in the 55M dash to earn the honors. Qasim Ellis rounds out the local All-American team by jumping 14.39m in the triple jump, good enough for seventh place. The women's team finished in 34th place and the men came in 56th in the country.

Harwick 15, Farmingdale State 8: Hartwick scored the first seven goals of the game and shut out the Rams in the first half of the contest on Saturday. Jimmy Owsinski scored five goals for the Rams and Tim Caden answered three, but that was it for the visitors. Hartwick's Phil Schaefer scored seven times on nine shots. Farmingdale State was 0-4 on extra man opportunities and has not converted on yet this season (0-21).

Women's Lacrosse

New Paltz 14, Farmingdale State 7: Samantha DelGaudio notched eight points as New Paltz dropped the Rams in their season opener on Saturday. Emily Williams scored with 5:18 left in the first to bring the Rams back to only a two-goal deficit before New Paltz went on to score seven of the next eight to put the game away at 12-4. Carly Schneider scored three times to lead Farmingdale State and Justine Rothar added another pair. The Rams did not have an assist in the game.

Baseball

Farmingdale State 4, Eastern Connecticut 3: C.J. Bula pitched 7.2 innings without giving up an earned run (allowed one unearned) in the Rams only win of the weekend on Sunday. Terrence Bohonan went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored to help the offense take a 4-1 lead into the ninth. Eastern Connecticut staged a rally, scoring twice in the ninth, but could not get the game tying run across the plate. Bula is 2-0 this season and has not allowed an earned run.

Southern Maine 11, Farmingdale State 2: Southern Maine's Mike Eaton went a perfect 6-6 with five RBI to beat the Rams in the first game on Sunday. Pitcher Mike Dolce gave up six runs (four earned) and allowed 12 hits in five innings. Collectively, the Rams hit 4-26.

Eastern Connecticut 8, Farmingdale State 3: Chris Phelan allowed six runs over six innings as the Rams dropped the first game against Eastern Connecticut. Jim Dimon kept Farmingdale State's bats at bay allowing just three hits over 6.1 innings, but walked eight. Rams shortstop Ron Remi went 1-2 with two walks and drove in two of the team's runs. 

Southern Maine 14, Farmingdale State 5: Vinny Messana issued walks to the first three batters of the game and all three scored to chase Messana from the game without recording an out. The Rams cut the deficit to 5-4 in the bottom 5th before Southern Maine scored six over the next two innings to take over the game. Third baseman David Zilnicki knocked in two runs and came around to score twice himself.

Softball

Farmingdale State 13, Framingham State 5: The Rams scored seven runs off of Framingham starter Alysia Morrissette in the first 1.2 innings to end the weekend with a mercy-rule win. Shortstop Nicole Farber tripled in the second inning to knock in three runs. She would finish the game going 2-4 with five RBI. In the thrid Madison Snyder doubled in two of the three RBI she had for the game for a commanding 9-1 lead.

Farmingdale State 3, Nazareth 1: Hope Zino pitched a complete game for the Rams, allowing zero earned runs and three hits while striking out 11. Farmingdale State scored all three of their runs in the second, two of which were unearned. Right fielder Jennifer Jarczynski went 1-3 and had the team's only RBI.

Marian 6, Farmingdale State 3: Marian scored three in the bottom of the fifth and three in the sixth to hand the Rams their first loss of the season on Saturday. Heather Buckshaw started for the Rams, keeping the opponent off the scoreboard for the first four innings before giving up six in the final two. Kaitlin Keenan went 2-4 with two RBI.

Farmingdale State 6, Roger Williams 0: The team opened the season with a shutout victory on Saturday. Hope Zino pitched the complete game scattering five hits and walking two. Madison Snyder went hit a homerun in the bottom of the fifth to knock in three runs. She went 2-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Centerfielder Kaitlin Keenan went 3-4 and scored three times.
