Rams Scoreboard: Track Wins Big at Wesleyan Invitational

Softball splits double header with NYU-Poly, remains tied for second place.

Highlights from this week's spring sports at include Faustine Chukwuezi winning three events (two individual, one team) for the track team and Hope Zino allowing 15 earned runs in two games, after giving up just three all season. Check back every Tuesday for this weekly report of game summaries.

Outdoor Track:

The Rams won eight events at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Faustine Chukwuezi personally took first place in two events, the long jump and triple jump. Kathleen Clermont won the 200m and Katherine Hoskins took the traditional 100m, while Victoria Mandat won the 100m hurdles. Later the four women teamed up to place first 4x100 relay. On the men's side Sean Tiernan won the 3000m Steeplechase and Mike Jang finished first in the shot put.

Softball

Farmingdale State 5, St. Joseph's 1: Madison Snyder hit her team leading sixth home run in the bottom of the fifth, a two run shot, to give the Rams (20-4, 8-2) all the insurance runs they would need to win game two on Sunday. Heather Buckshaw pitched well, seven innings pitched allowing one run on seven hits and striking out six to win her seventh game of the year. Rightfielder Jennifer Jarczynski went 1-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored and shortstop Nicole Farber went 2-3 and scored twice.

Farmingdale State 3, St. Joseph's 2 (8 innings): Lauren Nelson hit a walk off sacrifice fly to score the winning run in extra innings in game one on Sunday. Hope Zino pitched all eight innings for the Rams, allowing five hits and zero earned runs while striking out ten and walking two. Kristen Flint scored two of the Farmingdale State runs in going 2-4. Neither team scored an earned run in the contest.

Farmingdale State 15, NYU-Poly 7: The Rams homered twice and scored five times in the top of the sixth to hand NYU-Poly their second conference loss of the season in game two on Saturday. Madison Snyder lead off the big inning with a home run, going 2-4 with two RBI in the game. Rebecca Richman followed with a three-run shot of her own to close out the scoring. Richman was 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Zino was gave up seven earned runs, her second worst of the season, but still managed to earn the win allowing eight hits, five walks and striking out nine in six innings of work.

NYU-Poly 10, Farmingdale State 2: Zino gave up three home runs and eight earned runs over four innings, suffering her first loss of the year in game one on Saturday. The Rams had cut the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fourth before giving up a three run homer in the bottom to effectively seal the game. Kristen Flint hit a solo homerun in the fourth. Zino had given up three earned runs all prior to this start.

Men's Lacrosse 

Farmingdale State 9, Montclair State 6: The Rams (5-4, 2-0) scored three times in the fourth quarter to take down the two-time defending conference champs on Wednesday. The game was tight throughout until the 3-1 advantage in the final quarter decided it. Ryan Oswald led Farmingdale state with three goals, two of them in the final 12 minutes. Tim Caden tallied four points (two goals and two assits) and Al Rocco won 13 of 19 faceoffs.

Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State 13, Kean 12: The Rams (6-4, 5-0) jumped out to a 6-1 lead and then held on for the one goal victory on Saturday. Kean came all the way back to take a 9-8 lead with over twenty minutes remaining when Kim Lehmann scored twice in 1:25 to give the lead back to the Rams. She finished with three goals while Carly Schneider lead the team with five goals. The Rams scored their 13 goals on just 16 shots. Farmingdale State is a half game behind Montclair State (6-0) for the top spot in the conference.

Farmingdale State 11, Mount Saint Mary 4: The Rams used two separate 5-1 runs to take down Mount Saint Mary on Thursday. Krystin Shand scored a hat trick and added an assist. Emily Williams scored two goals and an assist and Kim Rigney also scored a pair of goals. Mount Saint Mary was outshot 23-14

Manhattanville 16, Farmingdale State 15: Carly Schneider scored twice to give the Rams a one goal lead late, but Melissa Gonvalves returned the favor by scoring twice in fourteen seconds to give Manhattanville the victory on Tuesday. Manhattanville opened the contest with a 4-0 advantage, but the Rams answered with a 5-0 run to retake the lead. Manhattanville exploded in the second half to a 10-5 lead before the Rams mounted their comeback and took the lead on the last Schneider score. Rigney netted five goals and Schneider added another four.

Baseball

St. Joseph's 11, Farmingdale State 10: St. Joseph's came from behind, tying the game in the bottom of the eighth and hitting a walk off single in the ninth to win game 2 on Sunday. Leftfielder Ryan Rubenstein knocked in four runs for the Rams (14-11, 8-4), going 3-4 and scoring once. Brandon Cruz went 3-3 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored. Starter CJ Bula pitched just 2.2 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) and six hits. Two Rams were thrown out at home during the game.

St. Joseph's 2, Farmingdale State 1: St. Joseph's scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third to top the Rams in game one on Sunday. Chris Phelan got tagged with the loss despite not giving up an earned run, scattering five hit over seven innings with two walks and six strikeouts.David Zilnicki singled in Farmingdale State's only run in the top of the sixth. The Rams had only three hits and went 1-10 over the last three innings.

Farmingdale State 15, Yeshiva 0: Mike Dolce did not allow a hit in his five innings of work, shutting out Yeshiva in game two on Friday. The Rams had their highest offensive output of the season, led by Terrence Bohonan who hit a two run homer in the bottom of the fourth. Bohonan went 3-4 with three RBI and two runs while third baseman Ryan Theiss went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run. Yeshiva, winless on the year, did not have a hit until there were two out in the bottom of the seventh.

Farmingdale State 9, Yeshiva 0: Vinny Messana allowed two hits over five innings to shut down the Maccabbees in game one on Friday. Ryan McAllister struck the big blow with a two run triple in the bottom of the second. He would come around to score two batters later going 2-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs on the day. Messana did not allow a run, struck out three and walked one in picking up his second win of the year.
