Farmingdale-Area Independence Day Weekend Guide

Events and information you need for the holiday weekend.

Happy Birthday America! Thursday will mark the 237th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The July 4th holiday will be a four day weekend for many and there's a lot to do. Here's a look at what's going on around the Town of Oyster Bay.

Thursday Events: 

Oyster Bay Parade: 
 The annual Fourth of July parade sponsored by the American Legion steps off at 10:30  a.m.  on Church Street. The march will end in Townsend Park.

Ice Cream Social: This event kicks off right after the parade ends. The Oyster Bay Historical Historical Society will be serving cones at the Earle Wightman House garden at 20 Summit Street.

Old Bethpage Restoration: A day long celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. with Old TIme Baseball at noon, a parade and ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. and a brass band concert at 3 p.m.It's located at 1303 Round Swamp Road.

Glen Cove Bicycle Parade: Meet at Finley Middle School horseshoe at 9:45 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. The route is from the middle school to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department. Children can decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, scooters, Big Wheels or battery-powered vehicles using a patriotic theme. Remember to wear bicycle helmets and safety gear.

Massapequa Park Parade:  Marchers will line up at the intersection of Walker Street and Lake Shore Drive. The march begins at 11 a.m. and proceeds down Park Boulevard to Front Street.

Gazebo Ribbon Cutting:  This event takes place at Morgan Memorial Park with a ribbon cutting for Glen Cove's newly restored Gazebo at 3 p.m. and Petillo and the Legacy Jazz Band will provide music in the Gazebo followed by a concert performance of the Northwinds Band at 7:45 pm. 

Friday Events: 

Dancing in the Streets: 
Music and dance instructors lead attendees through dance routines from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Audrey Avenue Band Stand in Oyster Bay. Designed for both singles and couples.

Glen Cove Concert:  Marty Napoleon, the legendary jazz musician, will kick off the 2013 Downtown Sounds Concert Series at the Glen Cove Village Square Plaza at 7:30 p.m.. Napoleon will lead a quartet that features long-time jazz musicians Ray Mosca and Bill Crow.

Saturday and Sunday Events:

Sea Faire: 
This family event that includes rides, fireworks, music and more – is designed to encourage people to take advantage of the waterfront to enjoy the coastline.  It will be be at Garvies Point Preserve from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Saturday with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.  It will also run Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday Brunch Art & Antique Walk:  Stroll down Audrey Avenue, South Street and East Main Street and have brunch in one of their many restaurants as local artists diplay their work from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
