Time Traveler Arrives at Republic

Famed amphibious Warbird will be on display this weekend at the American Airpower Museum.

A vintage PBY Catalina, a versatile American flying boat from the WWII-era, landed at Republic Airport about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in preparation for this weekend's special events at the American Airpower Museum.

The PBY Catalina, built by Consolidated Aircraft, was used extensively as an amphibious patrol plane and bomber by all branches of the military. Many of the vintage Warbirds in the AAM's collection will also be on display in honor of Memorial Day. Many will participate in the Bethpage Jones Beach Airshow Saturday and Sunday.

There are weather concerns as of early Friday morning for the airshow over the Atlantic. But the living museum on the grounds of Republic Airport will be open rain or shine throughout the weekend with special displays and events.

Special thanks to Ken Neubeck, who captured this "Cat" just as it made its low-level approach into Republic. See Ken's other recent shots here.
