Two Downtown Initiatives in Works in Farmingdale

Vietnamese restaurant could be open by the end of July on Main Street.

Two downtown improvements are planned in the coming weeks in Farmingdale.

At Monday's village board meeting, a restaurant owner addressed the board about his new Vietnamese-themed restaurant, planned for the east side of Main Street near the railroad crossing.

The owner is seeking to place 29 seats in his restaurant and working out details with town officials. The restaurant is scheduled to open in late July.

Meanwhile, village officials discussed new decorative window placements that will fit inside several empty storefronts. The window coverings are blown-up historic photographs of old Farmingdale, and are designed to spruce up the appearance of the storefronts while tenants are being sought, said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

Several of the empty storefronts have prospective tenants and developers, village officials said.

The window dressings will be available soon, town officials said.
