Farmingdale Student Takes Top Prize

A third grader from Farmingdale scored first place at the 2013 State Games of America competition for figure skating.

Farmingdale's Northside Elementary School student Hiram Cowhey took to the ice and took first place in figure skating at the 2013 State Games of America competition, which wrapped up Aug. 4. 

Held in Harrisburg, PA, the State Games of America is a bienniel Olympic-style event, with top athletes from across the nation score gold, silver and bronze medals.    

Hiram, a third grade student, won the Gold Medal in the Limited Beginner, CTT Boys FS Division for his routine. He was among 10,000 athletes to compete in the games, including figure skaters who competed for medals in 60 different events.

The Farmingdale student skated against other young student-athletes from various states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Farmingdale School District officials extended a big congratulations to Hiram Cowhey.
