School Budget Vote to Include Four Propositions

District offers details of budget proposal and related propositions in advance of May 21 vote

The Farmingdale School District hosted its fourth budget workshop recently and outlined details of four propositions that will appear on the May 21 ballot.

District officials provided the public with analysis of its budgeted revenue and expenditure projections for its 2013-2014 budget. The proposed tax levy increase of 2.35 percent stays within the state's tax levy limit, school officials said.

The district also reviewed proposed capital improvement projects and energy-related projects associated with its energy performance contract.

“It is always important to maintain an open forum with the community and emphasize the importance of balancing a fiscally responsible budget and maintaining the programs that are vital to our students,” said Paul Defendini, Assistant Superintendent for Business, who provided the bulk of the fiscal update.

The district outlined these four propositions that will appear on the May 21 ballot: They are:

  • Proposition 1 – The proposed 2013-2014 budget
  • Proposition 2 – Consent for use of capital reserve funds at no cost to the taxpayer.
  • Proposition 3 – The Farmingdale Youth Council appropriation.
  • Proposition 4 – The election of  two members of the Board of Education for three-year terms.
The district and the Board of Education continues to encourage community members to become involved in district issues. The District is preparing a series of visits to local community groups to provide information and answer additional questions concerning the proposed budget.
