Kannoli Kings: Rolling Royalty of Desserts

The idea was sparked only last summer. Sal LoPiccolo and his partners, Joe Pinola, Steve Gagliardi and Brian Corso said big events need the best desserts. 

They decided to buy a truck and make fresh cannoli and other desserts and travel to summer festivals and street fairs. The Kannoli Kings made their debut at Farmingdale's Columbus Day weekend.

The idea has taken off and now the team is attempting to expand its operation to private parties and other venues around the region.

Patch caught up with Sal LoPiccolo and asked him about the team's new venture: 

Q. What's makes Kannoli Kings different?  

A. Kannoli Kings has introduced a concept like no other. What we’ve created no one has done before. We have created the first mobile food truck on Long Island to sell cannoli. We bring the cannoli to you served in a warm shell with a variety a sweet cannoli creams to choose from and our one-of-kind food-infused cannoli."

Q. When you say, "food-infused," what do you mean?"

A. "We take a unsweetened cannoli shell that is specially cut and then filled with our fresh, gourmet style food filling. Our dishes are prepared only with the finest ingredients, and made fresh every day."

Q. What are some of the fillings?

A. "Truffle Bacon Mac and cheese, BBQ chicken, meatball Bolognese and eggplant caponata just to name a few. We add a variety of toppings to each one of our dishes which creates a taste like no other."

LoPiccolo said the hot cannoli are $6 and are filled with items such as the Bacon Mac & Cheese and Meatball Parm; the dessert treats are $4 and include Nutella, Pumpkin Spice, Apple Crumb, and more.
